Fireworks Of HoPE

Fireworks were invented in ancient China in the 7th century to scare away evil spirits with natural applications of gunpowder. Rather than being scary, as intended, they were dazzlingly beautiful and an instant hit with people from all walks of life.

They are still a hit throughout many nations, including the United States and India.

So, on July 4th, while many people in the United States celebrate Independence Day with pyrotechnic displays to commemorate winning battles of The Revolutionary War, we at Tripura Foundation share these photos of wide-eyed children enjoying the same beauty and wonder during Diwali, the Festival of Lights, last November, at several of our HoPE Learning Centers in Trichy, India.

It doesn’t cost much to bring HoPE and joy to children. It costs only $300 a month to sponsor an entire HoPE Learning Center. If that is not within your budget right now, only 30 cents a day covers the costs of HoPE Center sponsorship for one child, including tutoring, academic lessons, materials, daily mini meals, and spectacular holiday activities that could indeed forge brilliant life-long memories.

Happy Independence Day to those in the USA and de-LIGHT-full wishes to all!

World Forestry Day

We usually think of a forest as a group of trees, but it is a complex, living community. Beneath the forest canopy dwell interdependent populations of plants and animals, while the soil that forms the forest floor contains a large variety of invertebrates, bacteria, and fungi, all of which play an essential role in cycling nutrients in the soil and the forest.

On March 21, which is World Forestry Day, teachers taught all of these facts to children at our HoPE Learning Centers, and the children were encouraged to plant trees and make posters on recycled materials, including precious Moringa trees, around their villages.

They were also taught to make plant graftings. Each child made one grafting. They were then asked to take care of each plant. The teachers explained to the children about the importance of trees and the effects of deforestation. They enjoyed this session and plan to repeat it each year.

It doesn’t take much to bring HoPE and education to future generations. Right now, only $9 a month covers the costs of HoPE Center sponsorship, tutoring, lessons, materials, daily mini meals and world knowledge during special holidays, like World Forestry Day. For only $300 a month, you can sponsor an entire HoPE Learning Center filled with 40 children (and plant 40 trees as well)!

Looking Forward by Looking Back

February 1st is Dr. Pillai’s birthday, so it won’t be long until we again get to celebrate with him!

To help prepare for this occasion, here are some of our favorite photos of past birthdays that were celebrated in India at HoPE Learning Centers…

Moving ahead, we encourage you to sponsor a HoPE Center child (for only $9 a month), an entire HoPE Learning Center (for $360 a month), an elderly person in dire need (For just $30 a month), OR, we also hope that these photos will inspire your heart to think of a special recurring monthly amount to thank our beloved founder for all that he brings into our lives every day!

Christmas In India! (Part II)

Q: Do people celebrate Christmas in India?

A: Some do, including the 4040 children within our 101 HoPE Learning Centers!

Every year, children celebrate the occasion with talents shows, feasts, trees and even gifts. They are taught about Jesus and Santa Claus, but mainly they learn the importance of giving and gratitude.

Here is what Christmas in India is all about…

It doesn’t take much to transform the life of a child… or the lives of 40 children! Right now, only $9 a month covers the costs of HoPE Center sponsorship, tutoring, lessons, materials, daily mini meals and CHRISTMAS for a child. For only $300 a month, you can bring the spirit of Christmas to an entire HoPE Learning Center all year long!

As Sweet As Can Be

Q: What could be sweeter than a cake baking class?

A:  A cake baking class teaching children a skill to support themselves and their families held at a HoPE Learning Center in Coimbatore, India.

Mrs. Elizabeth came from the Middle East and brought along recipes for many types of cakes.  Her specialty is a cake made with dates.

She demonstrated to the children how to bake the cake using a pressure cooker for times when other ovens might not be readily available.

She also spoke about different types of cakes and how to make them delicious, yet also cost-effective.

Under her guidance, our HoPE Center children enthusiastically baked three types of cakes, which they shared with each other and bundled up in pieces to take home to their parents.

They declared that in the future they will prepare a fine cake for Babaji’s birthday.

It doesn’t take much to fill the lives of children with HoPE and Sweetness. For only $10 a month, you can sponsor a HoPE Center child all year long, including attendance at summer workshops. For a onetime gift of $30, you can cover the costs of a local child during one of these transformative summer trainings.

In The Eye Of The Beholder

Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

At a recent summer vocational training class held at a HoPE Learning Center in Coimbatore, children were taught how to recognize inner beauty and how to make everyone more beautiful on the outside as well.

Long-time beautician Mrs. Nithya, taught eager girls and boys how to use readily-available natural resources to beautify the hair, skin and nails of clients. She spoke about how healthy foods and fitness keep bodies and minds youthful and how different kinds of skin and hair require different beauty regimens.

She trained the children in creating different types of hair styles and Mehandi designs.

All of these skills could significantly enhance the incomes of these girls and boys in years to come.

It doesn’t take much to fill the lives of children with wonderment and beauty.

For only $10 a month, you can sponsor a HoPE Center child all year long, including attendance at summer workshops. For a one-time gift of $30, you can cover the costs of a local child during one of these transformative summer trainings.

Jute Bag Manufacturing Workshop

We conducted a vocational training program in making jute products on March 25 & 26, 2016, in the Alladipatti HoPE vocational training center in Kodaikanal to improve the economic conditions of the capable and deserving women in that region.

About 15 women were trained in making hand purses and shopping bags.  This is an initiative program from our Hope Centers which is planned to be extensively carried out in other zones, too.

Gifts of HoPE Enliven the World!

I just love to hear stories from Ambassadors of HoPE who visit our HoPE Centers around the world.  I hope to make my own visit when the time is right!

One such recent story comes from our Jai Radha (Gina Guerrieri) and I’d like to share it here with you today:

“Recently I had the honor of visiting one of Tripura Foundation’s rural HoPE Centers.  As we approached, the children were lined up and we were presented with a bouquet of local flora.

They started out a bit shy, as I imagine it’s not a regular occurrence to have a westerner visit their rural town.

Once they began to warm up though, the enthusiasm was unleashed! They were eager to show us how they do Phonemic Intelligence, followed by some yoga poses.

Then we shared snack time with them, which I have to say was quite tasty!  The “talent show” portion of our visit was by far the most energetic performances I have ever seen. These children are examples of unbridled joy and enthusiasm!
